会員の皆様、
2026年1月18日、ドレクセルブルックの宴会場にて恒例の日本人会新年会が開催されました。当日は生憎の降雪となりましたが、会場でのお料理に加え、特別に手配しておりました寿司トレイなどの準備も整っていたことから、予定通り執り行う運びとなりました。厳しい天候にもかかわらず、多くの会員の皆様にご足労いただき、心より感謝申し上げます。
本年は在ニューヨーク日本国総領事館より、片平 聡 大使/総領事とご家族、ならびに松永 直樹 領事部長にご出席いただくという光栄に浴しました。開会に先立ち、フィラデルフィア日本語補習授業校（JLSP）の福澤 隆治 校長・康代ご夫妻による居合道の演武が披露されました。会場内は静まり返り、参加者全員がその研ぎ澄まされた空気に息を呑むように見入っていました。司会の大西 Joshさんと宇佐美 友加さんの軽妙かつスムーズな進行のもと、片平大使による新年のご挨拶、乾杯の音頭、そして新入会員の紹介と続き、会場は終始和やかな雰囲気に包まれました。
特に今回のパーティーでは、例年以上に盛り上がるプログラムで会場を沸かせました。
- 「相撲の四股踏み」：新メンバーの坂本 景さんによる圧巻のパフォーマンス（26回！）に、会場のボルテージは一気に高まりました。
- コーラス：日本人会コーラスグループによる合唱「ひとつの朝」の美しい歌声は、新年の幕開けにふさわしい感動を届けてくださいました。
- ダンス企画：「恋するフォーチュンクッキー」を全員で踊る企画では、予想を上回る多くの方々が輪に加わり、会場が一体となる素晴らしい光景が見られました。片平大使もご子息と一緒に踊ってくださいました。
最後を締めくくるラッフル（抽選会）では、本年もたくさんの大変豪華な景品が揃いました。目玉となった「日本行き往復航空券」は、IACEトラベル様とユナイテッド航空様より共同でご提供いただきました。ボランティアをしてくださった皆様、貴重な時間を使いパーティーのためにご尽力いただきありがとうございました。そして景品やドネーションを頂戴しました多くの皆様と企業様に、この場をお借りして厚く御礼申し上げます。
楽しい時間は瞬く間に過ぎ、2026年の素晴らしいスタートを切ることができました。

フィラデルフィア日本人会 新年会コミッティ
Dear Members,
On January 18, 2026, the annual New Year’s Party (NYP) of JAGP was held in a beautiful banquet room in The Drexelbrook. Although the day saw unfortunate snowfall, all the preparations, including the venue’s cuisine and specially arranged items, such as sushi trays, were completely unaffected, allowing the event to proceed as scheduled. The NYP Committee extends its heartfelt gratitude to many members who made the effort to attend, despite the inclement weather.
This year, we were honoured by the presence of Ambassador/Consul General Satoshi Katahira of the Consulate-General of Japan in New York, accompanied by his family, and Consul Director Mr. Naoki Matsunaga. We were also delighted to welcome many other distinguished guests. This year’s party featured an even more exciting program than usual, opening with an Iaido presentation by the Principal Takaharu Fukuzawa of Japanese Language School of Philadelphia (JLSP) and Mrs. Yasuyo Fukuzawa. Under the skillful, smooth guidance of the Emcees (Mr. Josh Onishi & Ms. Yuka Usami), the event proceeded with the Ambassador’s New Year’s address, a toast, and the introduction of new members. The venue was enveloped in a warm and convivial atmosphere throughout.
After lunch, the Talent Show began with more thrills:
- Sumo Stomping: A spectacular performance by a new JAGP member, Mr. Kei Sakamoto (he did it 26 times!), and insanely raised the venue’s energy levels.
- Chorus: The beautiful voices of the JAGP Chorus Group singing “Hitotsu no Asa”; delivered moving emotions fitting for the start of the New Year.
- Dance event: The invitation to dance “Koisuru Fortune Cookie” saw more participants than anticipated join the dance floor, creating a splendid scene of the entire venue becoming one. It was outstanding!
The raffle, which brought the event to a close, once again featured an array of splendid prizes. The top prize, “a round-trip air ticket to Japan”, was generously provided jointly by IACE Travel and United Airlines. We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to many individuals who donated their time as volunteers, and individuals and organizations who kindly donated their prizes and contributions. Thank you!
The enjoyable time passed in the blink of an eye, and we were able to make a splendid start to 2026.
